That’s really good to hear! The basics are this: a pound means a deficit of 3,500 calories. A healthy rate to lose weight is 1 lb a week… so that’s a 500 calorie deficit per day for 7 days.

Calculate your BMR. Mine is around 1300. This is the number of calories you burn just by breathing, growing hair, and pumping blood. Add in any exercise (the physical activity). This will give you a rough estimate of how much you burn in a day (I’m not sure how accurate this is…) My number came out to 1840. Then, subtract 500. This should be your net calories per day. My goal calories then would be 1340 per day…

Keep this in mind too:

As a guide to minimum calorie intake, the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) recommends that calorie levels never drop below 1200 calories per day for women or 1800 calories per day for men. Even these calorie levels are quite low.
